Vault is both the padded table apparatus and the event in which a gymnast runs down a runway, hurdles onto a springboard, pushes off the vaulting table with their hands, and performs an aerial skill — such as a twist or somersault — before landing. It's the shortest event in gymnastics but demands enormous power and precision.
