Balance beam is a padded apparatus roughly four inches wide and four feet off the ground. Gymnasts perform a routine combining leaps, turns, jumps, and acrobatic elements like back handsprings, all while maintaining balance on the narrow surface, before dismounting with a tumbling skill.
