In the all-around competition format, a gymnast performs on every apparatus in their discipline (for example, vault, bars, beam, and floor in women's artistic gymnastics) and their scores are added together for one combined total. The all-around champion is the gymnast with the highest combined score, separate from event finals, which are scored on a single apparatus.
