A deduction is a set amount of points taken off a gymnast's execution score by the judges for a specific technical or artistic error — for example, a small deduction for a slightly bent leg, or a larger one for a fall off the apparatus. Deductions are standardized in the Code of Points so judging is consistent across competitions.
